Egypt Project -2000- 100 Points in Social Studies

Proposal due no later than- Dec. 14,

Project due - Jan.8

Here’s your chance to delve into a part of Egyptian study that you are particularly interested in, and to create a product using your own particular talents. This is a chance for you to write your own homework for the next few weeks!

Basic Requirements:

  1. Your project must be described in a proposal that is approved by Mrs. Hogan.
  2. You will choose to do something about ancient or modern Egypt
  3. Your work should reflect good effort of at least 2- 4 hours.
  4. You will have a written part and part that is not written part.
  5. You will include a bibliography with at least three resources.

Please let your parents know that we have discussed this project fully in class, and that you will share the following information with them:

  1. Don’t start your project until you get my "OK".
  2. You will not need to go out and buy supplies. The projects are not graded on how "flashy" they are, but on the information that is conveyed. (You can get100 points on a report that is written on notebook paper, and a classmate could make an expensive, yet inaccurate model and get only a 75. )

Here are some ideas:

  • make an Ancient Egypt game, with a decorated game board and lots of question cards, remember to include the answers on a separate sheet of paper
  • make a model of a pyramid and write a report about how the Egyptians built them
  • make a set of paper dolls with different costumes worn in ancient Egypt, describe the everyday life of the ancient Egyptians
  • write new lyrics to a familiar song, make them full of facts on ancient Egypt
  • cook some of the foods that the ancient Egyptians ate, write about those foods, tell where they grew or where they are grown now
  • make a clay model of a real Egyptian artifact and tell about it
  • make a model of a mummy, write about how they were made, or tell about people are prepared for burial today
  • write a play or reader’s theater about something ancient Egyptian
  • make a nicely illustrated poster with detailed descriptions about topics of ancient Egypt
  • write a report on modern Egypt
  • make some Egyptian-style jewelry, write about the real thing
  • make a salt and flour map of the Nile and its surrounding area, write about it
  • choose any pharaoh and tell about him or her, illustrate your report
  • make a children’s book about ancient Egypt, include illustrations and information

Remember your grade is based on substance, accuracy and creativity. We look forward to your good work!
